In the heart of Dungarpur, Rajasthan, Muskan Sansthan is working tirelessly to protect Go Mata (our sacred cows) from the horrors of abandonment and slaughter. Dungarpur is a tribal-dominated region, where 75% of the population struggles to meet even their basic needs. The rocky terrain makes agriculture nearly impossible, forcing many families to migrate in search of work. Unfortunately, during this migration, cows—once valued for their milk—are left behind, often neglected and abandoned.
In the absence of care, these gentle creatures, no longer productive for milk, are cast onto the roads, where they face accidents, injury, and cruelty. Many of them are taken by agents who attempt to smuggle them to slaughterhouses, and only a few are lucky enough to escape that fate. This is where Muskan Sansthan steps in, through our Mahavir Goshala, a sanctuary dedicated to providing shelter, medical care, and nourishment to these abandoned cows.
Currently, we are home to over 100 Go Matas at our goshala. These cows have been rescued from perilous situations, and we work around the clock to offer them the care and respect they deserve. Many of the cows in our shelter have been rescued from vehicles trying to illegally transport them across the Gujarat border to slaughterhouses. At Muskan Sansthan, we step in when no one else will, offering them a safe haven in their time of crisis. However, we are facing a critical challenge: our goshala is overcrowded, and the shelter is not equipped to handle the increasing number of cows in need.
The heavy rains have damaged our current infrastructure, and the number of cows needing shelter continues to rise. To continue our mission, we must urgently expand our goshala and build a new facility to accommodate 250 cows. The current shelter is already stretched beyond capacity, and we are in dire need of funds for building materials, such as bricks, cement, steel, and concrete, to rebuild and expand our shelter. In addition to the physical expansion, we also need support for ongoing costs such as fodder, medical treatment, and salaries for our dedicated staff who work tirelessly to ensure the well-being of our rescued cows.
Without your help, these cows will continue to suffer in unsafe, unsanitary conditions. Their health will deteriorate, and their futures will be uncertain. However, with your generosity, we can build a new goshala that will not only provide shelter to more cows but also give them the care, attention, and dignity they deserve.
